Modern Drama Students Entertain AUN Community

On November 29, students of Modern Drama (ENG 310) entertained the university community with plays they had written as class projects.

The course instructor, Dr. Agatha Ukata of the English & Literature Department, recognized that English Language and Literature plays a big role in theater arts. She said the project was one way students could demonstrate their talents and skills and add value to society.

"Drama is very entertaining. It is always very good to relax and fill your minds with very good things for a moment."

Through the platform, she believes that those who watch will begin to recognize the values the students are creating within the university community and the students can further develop their entrepreneurial mindset if they realize that it can become lucrative.

"A handful of very interesting storylines and very good performances" was how Dr. Agatha described the five plays – ‘Inside Life’, ‘Money Talks’, ‘Who Would Be The Next Governor’, ‘The Ideal’ and ‘Money’.

One of the actors, third-year accounting major and English minor, Nmaduwan Jalo, said there was a lot of team building involved as every member of the team participated in writing the script, each writing a separate action before they merged it into one.

Another actor and final-year Computer Science major, Chidera Nweke, said highlighting the role money plays in everything in Nigeria motivated them in producing the play.

Fourth-year Law student, Tobi Olanrewaju, who played the role of a policeman in "Money Talks" added that the play portrays the endemic nature of corruption in Nigeria.

Another fourth-year Law major, Abdallah Anwar, said his satisfaction with Professor Agatha's style of teaching was a motivation to explore his talent in acting.

"The professor is very engaging. Students are very excited about the way she is taking the course."

Dr. Erebi Ndoni and Dr. David Adetoro from the School of Law were in attendance. Asked whether she saw creativity in the display, Dr. Ndoni answered that it was very obvious.

"I was excited to see my students, particularly the law students, exhibit creativity as much as they did. It was a good way to relax."

Vice President for Finance & Administration, Olanipekun Olanrewaju, and Dean of SAS, Dr. Patrick Fay, were among senior management who attended the event.
