STARS Club Takes Sustainability Campaign to Jimeta Secondary School

On November 22, 2019, Members of the STARS (student teams advocating regional sustainability) Club were at Suher International School for Creative Science in Jimeta to sensitize the young ones on environmental sustainability.

The Club members' presentation covered climate change, global warming and how to reduce their carbon footprints.

The students were taught how to craft decorative arts and other useful things with recycled items such as bottles, assignment papers, cardboards, markers, and glue.

An inter-class interior decoration competition was conducted after the decorative arts training between the senior and the junior sections where SS1 emerged the winner.

Ms. Zainab Usman, a member of the STARS Club, said it was a wonderful experience as they succeeded in passing knowledge and skills to the students.

Vice Principal of Suher International School for Creative Science, Mr. Shelleng, urged members of the Club to return to start a STARS Club in their school because of its benefits to the students as future leaders and policymakers.

The AUN STARS Club was founded by Professor Charles Reith, the former Director of the AUN Sustainability Office, in 2012.

The mission of the Club is to create awareness and sensitization about environmental sustainability through advocacy and campaigns. Its vision is to advance sustainable solutions within and outside the university community.
