Out & About on Campus: Movie Night

Out & About on Campus: Movie Night

On Saturday 5th December 2020, the Campus Activities Board organized a movie night with lots of fun activities.

Students and guest vendors came with different varieties of delicious delicacies to sell, there were also free refreshments provided by the  Campus Activities Board (CAB).

To Kick start the event there was music and a lot of buying and selling going on. Blanketed by the starry night, students reclined on socially distanced mattresses. Reminiscent of driveway cinemas we grew up watching in movies as kids, It was quite a sight to behold.

Since students resumed for the Fall semester, we have not enjoyed many social activities due to the strict COVID- 19 guidelines put in place. Students were required to wear a face mask, a blanket (because it is harmattan season and gets very cold at night), and pillows for a cozy night. The event had an impressive turnout. It was the weekend and everyone wanted to do something fun. There was good music provided by DJ Obi and an overall good ambiance. The  Christmas themed event featured stalls decorated in the classic green and red with lots of twinkling Christmas lights.

At about 10.30 pm, popcorn in hand and other snacks ready to be munched, everyone was in position ready for an exciting viewing. “Life in year” a 2020 movie starring Jaden Smith and Cara Delavigne began with opening credits. The movie was a romantic comedy starring young adults which all students could relate to.

A few students I interviewed were overjoyed as this is the first time they were experiencing extra-curricular activities in school this semester. At AUN like anywhere else, the Corona Virus Pandemic has affected the day-to-day lives of individuals especially limiting socialization. Students were elated at the opportunity to go out of dormitories, watch an interesting movie, and just hang out like we used to. Of course, while wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing. CAB made a lot of students happy this weekend.
