On February 21, President Dekle received a 23-member delegation from the Federal Ministry of Education (FMoE) and States Ministry of Education (SMoE) which was on a courtesy visit to the President.
The team was in Yola for a week for the field pilot testing of a newly developed online educational management software called NEMIS. Introducing the delegation, AUN's Mathematics professor and member of the team, Dr. Jamiu Olumoh, said the team also carried out a critical technical review of the software they have developed for educational management in Nigeria.
While the team had visited a year earlier, team lead, from the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, Ojo Oluwafemi, said their second visit to Yola offered them an opportunity to have information that they didn't have before, adding that they plan to visit again in May. He was very pleased with AUN.
"We appreciate you for hosting us to do this for Nigeria."
Among the delegates was a consultant was the National Director of Educational Management Information System in Namibia, Raimo Dengeinge.
The consultant to the AUN-USAID (SENSE) project from Namibia thanked AUN for its hospitality and the conducive environment for work that is provided.
The Planning Officer for Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Auwalu Mohammed Zubairu, noted the challenge of accurate data in education in the country.
"Managing education information has been a typical problem. We have been into this for quite some time. Fortunately, SENSE and the Federal Ministry of Education are intervening."
The Vice President Finance & Administration, Olanipekun Olanrewaju, encouraged the team to develop the system to a level that meets standardization by all stakeholders such that it becomes one recognized for Nigeria.
"If you do it well, in Nigeria, you can be ambassadors in other parts of Africa to replicate the same thing."
