On Friday, March 19th, 2021, a new leader took on the affairs of AUN. Professor Attahir B. Yusuf was appointed Interim President. The Founder, Board of Trustees, and the AUN Governing Council found a worthy helmsman in Professor Yusuf. He will steer the university to greater heights.
Professor Yusuf brings to this role, a wealth of experience from an accomplished career in business and academia. A former Group Executive Director with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), he served meritoriously in the London office of the NNPC. Accomplishing many policy changes and successes in Human Resources, Medical, Pension, and Security, for the Corporation. He later became the Group Executive Director, Commercial and Investment.
Professor Yusuf taught in many Universities in Nigeria and abroad, including the University of Maiduguri; The University of the West Indies, Barbados; PNG University of Technology, Papua New Guinea; the University of the South Pacific, Fiji; Massey University, New Zealand; Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, and the University of Sharjah, UAE.
When he joined AUN, he served as Dean of AUN’s School of Business & Entrepreneurship, and host of the University’s prestigious Business & Entrepreneurship programs. In 2020, Professor Yusuf was appointed Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Following his impressive leaps and bounds through a stellar career, our learning community is gratified for a deserving leader of Professor Attahir Yusuf’s caliber.
The search for a new globally distinguished American President is underway and will be concluded soon by the Governing Council. Many globally competitive candidates from top American universities have indicated interest and their applications are currently being reviewed.
