On November 1, 2019, President Dekle flagged off the poster presentation of the Senior Design Project (SDP) of graduating seniors in the School of IT & Computing (SITC).
SDP is a showcase of designs of solutions to pertinent computing problems. The seniors demonstrate, through well-articulated poster designs, how they intend to add value to society.
"This represents the culmination of your journey as SITC students," said a delighted President Dekle at the flag-off ceremony.
"You started out learning basic knowledge, memorizing things, and learning basic programming and your professors sat beside you. Now [that] you are seniors, you have to apply these things.
Presenters expect constructive criticism and feedback from professors, evaluators, project sponsors, and others viewing their presentations.
The SDP Coordinator, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini, who introduced the event, explained that it serves as a platform for SITC students to communicate their work professionally to the general public and from which they gain proficiency in the delivery of technical information. He stood in for the SITC Dean, Dr. Mathias Fonkam.
"It is an opportunity for students to develop and demonstrate their ability to apply scientific and engineering principles to the solution of practical problems in information, technology, computing, engineering systems, and processes."
AUN students, faculty members, as well as tech enthusiasts from other universities attended as usual.
Impressed with the turnout, the Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost, Prof. Muhammadou Kah said to the exhibitors, "Each of your presentations has enormous potential. You have to work harder to take it to the next level. [We hope] that you will go on out of these doors and create the next startup, the next innovation, and the next company."
All the students expressed confidence in their presentations.
The Vice-Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Prof Abdullahi L. Tukur, sent his Director of Academic Planning & Quality Assurance and the head of Information Technology as representatives of MAUTECH. The VC lauded the AUN concept of SDP that takes students out of the classroom to think about how to implement what they learn.
The numerous projects on display have the potential to create jobs and he envisages future companies emerging from them.
The senior design poster exhibition is a major milestone in the students' academic journey, comparable to the final year project in most Nigerian universities.
