The Interim Dean of the School of Engineering, Dr. Abel Ajibesin, has assured Engineering students of the management’s willingness to facilitate their membership of professional bodies, whether local or international.
“At the School of Engineering, we have set up a committee to assist you. There is a committee for professional activities,” the dean said at the Town Hall Meeting on February 28, 2020.
In his presentation on the Benefits of joining the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the dean said the organization would expose them to opportunities that include scholarships, awards, projects, and travel grants.
IEEE will also groom them to become leaders, advance their profession and provide them with the opportunity to share knowledge, collaborate with others, contribute to humanitarian efforts, and help chart a path for the next generation of technology.
He told the students that it is one of the organizations that they have to belong to.
IEEE is presently the world's largest technical professional association with a membership of about 423,000 professionals and with student members across 160 countries.
“Your IEEE membership gives you the chance to learn and give back to the profession at every level.”
In his presentation, he talked about the organization, the expectations, core benefits, awards/scholarships, and fellowships as well as the many regional students’ activities.
The student wing has been active at AUN since 2009. He encouraged them to join the student branch on campus and help promote it.
The student branch of IEEE has won two awards in the past, one of which is the Stallion Collaborative Award.
“AUN students have participated three times in the Extreme Programming Competition.”
Another organization he encouraged them to belong to is the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
