Members of the AUN Honor Society (AUNHS) on Friday, September 27, 2024, paid a visit to the Saint Suzan Orphanage at Kwanan Waya, Yola South Local Government, Adamawa State. The visit filled the community with joy as they received necessities like food and clothing.
AUN President Dr. DeWayne Frazier joined the Honor Society students. They interacted with the children there, engaging in conversations, playing games, and offering words of encouragement. The children's faces lit up with excitement.
Mr. Israel Curtis Dike, a final-year law major and president of the AUNHS, said the purpose of their visit was to motivate the children to work smartly and become successful in life. He further stated that he is motivated to help the children because he didn't have much when he was growing up and understands the struggles of not having much.
Mrs. Suzana Drambi, founder of the orphanage, expressed gratitude to AUNHS members for their continued support. She said that AUN had been a pillar of hope for her and the orphans. She prayed to God to reward the students for their kindness, care, and love, and she encouraged them to keep a heart of love.
Ms. Nmaolisa Uchendu, a second-year business administration major and member of AUNHS, felt very emotional seeing how the children overcame the challenges of growing up, and she was also touched to see how happy they were. This made her want to help more in society.
The community outreach to the orphanage had a significant impact on both the students and the children. For the students, it was a valuable opportunity to contribute to their community, develop empathy, and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the less privileged. The experience fostered a sense of social responsibility and compassion. For the children at the orphanage, the outreach provided much-needed support and a sense of hope.
The donated food and clothing will help alleviate the children's basic needs and improve their quality of life. Moreover, the interaction with the students brought them joy and a sense of belonging.
