On Wednesday, December 1, 2021, thirteen AUN Safety & Security Department staff received certificates after completing a professional advanced diploma course in Safety Management.
At a colorful ceremony attended by President Margee Ensign and other senior management inside the Department's training center, the new officers received their certificates from the Environment and Safety Management Institute leadership.
The newly decorated 'safety experts’ include Dr. Lionel von Rawlins, AVP for Safety and Security, as well as: Emmanuel Augustine, Paul Lukor, Ms. Christy Nimmak, Wilson Joshua, Ganni Cletus, Ms. Justina Gabriel, Aminu Abubakar, Joshua Chinenye, Ms. Zainab Zubairu, Ms. Christiana Myaornyi, Ms. Alice Raymond and Anas Audi.
Describing the event as a milestone in the officers' career, AVP Lionel said security is a subset of Safety.
"If one is safe, then he is secure. We are the Safety and Security department and as such, it behooves us to become trained and certified in safety management. It was time for us in the Department to obtain management and leadership responsibilities as well as gain formal and professional qualifications in the field in which we work".
Dr. Rawlins challenged the new safety officers to put their new skills into practice and improve the quality of services they render to the university community.
