VP Byron Receives Visiting Counsellors, Assures of Yola's Safety, Peacefulness

On Thursday, February 24, 2022, the Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Student Affairs, Byron Bullock, received, on behalf of President Ensign, a delegation of the national executive council of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON).

Led by its National President, Prof Mrs. Elizabeth Omotunde Omoyeme Egbochukwu from the University of Benin, the counselors, on a fact-finding tour of Yola ahead of their upcoming International Conference, opted to take a quick tour of AUN.

"We intend to hold this year's conference in Yola, so we are here to inspect facilities and the level of safety because of the rumors about insecurity in the NorthNorth. We take pride in coming to AUN, hoping we can work with you and get your support in terms of facilities, and hopefully get one of you to be one of our speakers,” Professor Egbochukwu said.

Dean Bullock assured the guests that Yola would be suitable for hosting if they decided to do so.

"Yola is a very peaceful, safe, and welcoming community. We spend much time in and around the community because of our development work as a university. We are very connected with the local community in Yola and Jimeta. We have the Adamawa Peace Initiative, which brings in representatives from various community fractions to be part of what we do in our development work. We send our students out doing community service work. Unfortunately, many people have such a stigma about the North.

"We hope you enjoy your visit here: we take pride in hosting people on our campus and we always hope that partnerships begin with every group that visits us from time to time," he added.

Among the CASSON delegation were the association's National Secretary, Prof Awoyemi A.C. (University of Ibadan), Prof Momoh (University of Jos), Dr. Bright Bethel (University of Port Harcourt), Vice-Chairperson of the Adamawa state chapter, Mrs. Zainab Gika, and Assistant State Secretary Usman Gaya, amongst other members.
