The American University of Nigeria (AUN) has resumed its weekly Employee Wellness Program for the Spring 2026 semester as part of its ongoing commitment to encourage healthier lifestyles, ease workplace stress, and foster interaction among employees across the university.
The new season of the initiative kicked off on September 17, 2026, with weekly sessions scheduled for Thursdays. Activities include aerobics, basketball, volleyball, and indoor exercises, giving employees opportunities to stay active, unwind, and connect with colleagues outside their usual work routines.
Speaking at the Spring 2026 kickoff, AUN President Prof. DeWayne Frazier underscored the value of physical activity in maintaining mental clarity and staying focused at work. “The walks and activities you engage in may seem simple, but they have a significant impact on your overall wellbeing. Exercise helps clear your mind of anxiety and stress so you can return to your work refreshed and focused,” President Frazier said.
Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and Planning, Hajia Faizatu A. Abubakar, urged employees to make their health a deliberate priority despite demanding work schedules. “When you are healthy, you are better able to perform and give your best at work,” she noted. “We want our staff to see exercise not as an occasional activity, but as an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.”
AUN Coach Ahmadu Abba praised the turnout at the opening session, describing it as an encouraging start to the new semester and a continuation of an initiative aimed at building employee morale and teamwork.
