Winners Emerge in AUN ACM Student Contest

On April 19, 2023, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) organized a Computer Programming Contest open to all AUN students, irrespective of discipline.

According to ACM President Halima Bornoma, this activity's primary goal is to enhance students' involvement in technological activities to prepare them for real-life situations.

"This contest aims at improving their problem solving and critical thinking skills within a short time", she said.

The competition featured a total of six participants. One for the Object Modelling Contest, two for the UI/UX Design Contest, and five for the Programming Contest. One student participated in both the Programming and Object Modeling Contests.

The contestants were Moyosore-Oluwa Ajala, Ena Otuokon, Munachi Umeh, Chinedu Noble Kalu, and Laouali Bachir.

At the end of the brain tasking and electronic creativity contest in the three categories, Contest Evaluator and SITC faculty, Professor Muktar Usman, having critically examined the performances and results of all contestants, presented the list of winners in different categories as thus:

Programming Winner: Moyosore-Oluwa Ajala

UI/UX Design Winner: Ena Otuokon

Object Modeling Winner by default: Moyosore-Oluwa Ajala

Interim Dean of SITC, Dr. Abel Ajibesin said the idea is to recreate a competitive level ground for AUN students to strengthen and sharpen the creative and innovative spirit AUN is known for.

"This is to spark and rekindle the students' creative minds. They used to participate in such internal and external competitions and performed very well to attain good positions. Out of such competitive spirit and zeal, a group of students created the OpenERP System, which the University is presently using for administrative and academic solutions.

According to Associate Professor Abel Ajibesin, AUN students have acquired a lot of skills and knowledge from the courses they have studied. Therefore, they need to be prepare for industrial-readiness, where they can take on any challenge or problem and solve it quickly.

The association's Executive Committee members organized the contest, which has Ms. Halima Bornoma, Udochukwu Okoro, Vice-President, Somtochukwu David Dan-Okereke, Treasurer, with Dr. George Thandekattu, as Faculty Advisor.
