On October 7, 2024, students of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) joined in the commemoration of World Teachers Day with a special program organized by the Students Outreach Program (SOP) in the auditorium of the School of Law.
Mr. Abdullahi Isa, a Senior International and Comparative Politics (ICP) Major and the President of the SOP, said the student organization appreciates teachers all over the world, particularly AUN teachers, for their effort, patience, love, and tender care toward their students. He emphasized the determination of AUN teachers in imparting knowledge and guidance to their students, which helps in shaping their lives both within and outside the campus.
"Our gratitude and heartfelt appreciation go to our founder, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, GCON, and Dr. DeWayne Frazier, the president of AUN, for choosing reliable, competent, and knowledgeable teachers in different fields of study and departments to help nurture us and assist us in growing into reputable, innovative, and important individuals in society and Nigeria at large," said Mr. Abdullahi.
In his short poem "A Teacher," Mr. Abubakar Atiku, a senior ICP major and member of the SOP, emphasized the significance, necessity, and relevance of teachers in society and in the lives of students.
In his own contribution, Mr. Akachukwu Madueke, a senior in Communications and Multimedia design and a co-organizer of the event, described the lifelong impact of educators on the upbringing of youths. "Teachers are architects that shape the minds and hearts of the next generation. They are mentors, role models, and friends who support and guide us through difficult and challenging times."
Ms. Bilkisu Abdulkadir Alkali, a junior in the school of law and the liaison officer of the SOP, led a short game called "Two truths and a lie" in order to foster mutual understanding between the teachers and the students. Many instructors participated actively in the game section, thereby making it lively and interactive.
Dr. Peter Genger, chair of the AUN ICP program, commended the students' efforts in organizing the event. He described the conference as a remarkable event and expressed gratitude to the SOP for their initiative in recognizing the hard work of the teachers in AUN.
