Yola, the capital city of Adamawa State, the Home of Beauty is Nigeria's safest and most conducive city for learning. Praising Yola as an idyll, serene and comparatively low crime rate destination, President Margee Ensign explained at a recent interview that Adamawa people have a long-standing tradition of peaceful and harmonious coexistence which the American University of Nigeria supports through peacebuilding programs and activities.
President Ensign enjoined parents from other parts of Nigeria to visit Yola and experience its serenity first-hand and deflate the false narrative of insecurity associated with the Northeast region.
"Geographically, we are in the Northeast but Yola is an oasis of peace and abundant splendor. Our beautiful Yola is one of the safest cities according to statistics, not only in the North but in the country. It is a community that has come together for the last ten years to make sure we focus on solving security-related challenges, and I think every community in Nigeria could mimic what's happening here in Yola.
"Yola is a very peaceful place; it has a mix of people from all over the country. People here have a long history of interacting with each other in peace, and a few years ago, when we started the Adamawa Peace Initiative (API), the idea was to bring together all religious, community and civil society leaders to preach peace, provide exemplary leadership for harmonious coexistence and to work with vulnerable children who are most likely to join terrorist groups. We are restarting that effort right now. Your viewers and listeners should not think we are not safe here”.
President Ensign assured students who choose to study at AUN and their parents of a life-changing experience. "This is the best university situated in the most peaceful city in Nigeria. The future of Africa is here at AUN".
