Sophia Essahmed is an Entrepreneurship Instructor and currently enrolled for her doctorate at the School of Business & Entrepreneurship Faculty. She is driven by a strong will towards development, especially inclusive growth focused on underserved communities, diversity, and gender education for prosperity.
As an educationalist, social entrepreneur, and human resource practitioner, who has been involved in community-based development for over twelve years, she has the capacity to link education to meaningful livelihoods. With a sound teamwork ability and critical thinking skills, she has rallied competent colleagues in focusing on girl child education, out-of school children, and children with special needs, especially as it relates to sensitive issues in cultural and religious contexts. She has delivered excellent educational services for over 15 years, especially as part of a family school business, that involves all 3 levels of early years, primary and secondary education.
As the founder/CEO of The Sophia Essahmed Foundation working on ensuring improved access to life-enhancing education for girls, orphans, and children with special needs in northern Nigeria, where those in need have benefitted from scholarships. With these duties, she has continually sought more enlightenment and collaboration with researchers and development agencies such as:
- PLAN International in a skills acquisition and training program in Kano-City, Kano. - Huawei Technologies Company in the upgrade and remodelling of the ICT Kaduna Capital School, Kaduna.
- The Development Research and Projects Center (drpc), in a workshop on Education in Emergence (school safety and resilience system building), Abuja. As these projects prove how education is not just an end, but part of a chain to sustainable livelihoods; hence the need for entrepreneurship education.
