Assistant Professor of system dynamics, SITC

Dr Cleron is returning to AUN after a year of private consultancy with the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Sustainable Development (OSSAP-SDG) and UNDP. During this period Dr Cleron produced two long-term planning models: a global system dynamics model of Nigeria’s socio-economy to assess Nigeria’s development strategies to 2050 and a sectoral system dynamics model of the state of Gombe to support the state 10-year development plan.

Prior to this period, from 2016 to 2020, Dr Cleron taught and conducted research at the American University of Nigeria. His system dynamics modelling work resulted in significantly disseminating the knowledge of system dynamics in Nigeria, its use and its visibility.

Dr Cleron is an economist with substantial expertise in computer simulation modelling using system dynamics. His expertise has been acquired over a period of 40 years starting in 1992. His first important work, an economic model of the Saudi Arabian economy, was published in 1996. Since then he has developed a number of models in a variety of areas for a variety of clients among which The World Bank, UNDP, Guarantee Trust Bank, UNIDO, USAID, several Nigerian manufacturers and insurers, The Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria and others. He has conducted many workshops and seminars with the aim of disseminating the use of system dynamics in Nigeria.

Dr Cleron has supervised many research projects involving system dynamics modelling. He believes that Africa is confronted to a host of managerial issues in which domesticating complexity and establishing transparency are key requirements. There is no better tool than system dynamics to that effect.
