AUN Academy Celebrates Humanities Day

On February 2, 2023, the AUN celebrated Humanities Day in grand style with displays of inspiring talent and creativity that left the audience spellbound.

The event hosted at the Community Hall in the North Campus had guests from ABTI International School Government Girls College Yola; Yola Model Secondary school; General Murtala Mohammed College, Jimeta; Government Day Wuro-Hausa, Yola and other secondary schools from around Yola Metropolis, which showed up in their immaculate and colorful uniforms.

Among the highlight of the celebrations were students turning up on stage to display pride in their culture with a mastery performance of the cultural dances of the Marghi and Fulani as well as contemporary music choreographies that left the audience cheering for more.

In addition to the skillful displays, the students also made insightful presentations on proper waste management, the significance of the Nigerian Coat of Arms, the geopolitical zones of the country, and their natural resources. In addition to emphasizing the significance of environmental protection, the presentations revealed the students' comprehensive knowledge of their country's cultural heritage and political landscape.

Home Economics students also demonstrated their culinary expertise by presenting an audience-thrilling recipe for preparing the popular shawarma snack. Their recipe included tortilla wraps, sausages, vegetables, and protein. The young chefs explained that the secret to their fantastic shawarma is adding the correct ingredients and the duration for which the shawarma sits in the oven.

Aisha Sani Aliyu's presentation on the advantages of modesty stood out as well. Ms. Aisha spoke eloquently on the importance of cultivating humility in personal relationships and all aspects of life, emphasizing that humility is a virtue that opens doors and creates opportunities for growth and success.

Director of AUN Schools, Mr. Frank Marisco, explained that celebrating Humanities Day consolidates the Humanities department's curriculum, stating that the AUN Academy places a high premium on entrepreneurship and encourages hands-on, practical learning outside the classroom.

"By celebrating Humanities Day, we hope to cultivate and instill in our students the essential principles of art and culture. This not only increases their self-confidence and independence, but also promotes religious and cultural tolerance among students from diverse backgrounds, fostering and strengthening inter-school friendships".

The Humanities day celebration was a resounding success in demonstrating the school's dedication to fostering a healthy and tolerant environment beyond the classroom. It concluded with lively student interactions, refreshments, and the distribution of prizes to participating students.
