On April 15, 2023, the AUN Honor Society inducted 26 new members at a colorful ceremony inside the e-library auditorium.
The Honor Society is the elite club for high-achieving students who are highly committed to the University's development ideals. Members organize tutorials for other students and engage in community service.
To qualify to be invited for an interview leading to admission into the Honor Society, a student must maintain academic standing of at least a 3.5 CGPA and show leadership qualities by involving in university activities while providing guidance and direction to other students. A potential member must also show enthusiasm for community services, be of high moral standard, and prove to be a person of high academic integrity who must not have been involved in any examination malpractice.
The new members walked tall as they bowed to have the Society's hallowed sashes hung on their necks. Their friends and relatives applauded as their names were called out.
The Vice President of Campus Life and Dean of Students, Mr. Byron Bullock, administered the Society's Oath of Allegiance. The event was anchored by the V.P. of SGA and Honor Society member Ms. Saffiya Auwal.
In his welcome address, AUNHS's Faculty Advisor, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini, counseled the members to abide by the ethics and standards of the Society. They must also demonstrate a willingness to take responsibility in service of others and discharge such responsibilities professionally and with integrity.
"As members, you are expected to conduct yourselves as role models to other students, Professor Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini, Dean of the AUN School of Engineering, told them.
According to the Associate Professor of Telecommunications: "AUN Honor Society is a non-governmental society that recognizes personal academic excellence. The members have the mission to promote the values of higher education through scholarship, leadership, service and research, and above all, good character."
Keynote speaker and Dean, School of Law, Prof. Muhammad Yusuf, encouraged the members to sustain the momentum and retain their 3.5 CGPA. The Law Professor noted that the AUN Honor Society is no different from other honor societies worldwide regarding its value and high demand. He advised that the Society's executive committee should work towards gaining the benefit due to them. He said that in other climes, honor society members qualify for specific percentage discounts in on-campus shops and cafeterias whenever they patronize.
The Dean also urged the AUN Honor Society to endeavor to link up with the International Honor Society in the USA, which has members in the 50 states of the U.S., being the most inclusive in every profession in the U.S., and has an international reach of over 102 countries around the world.
President of the AUN Honor Society, Ms. Soma Wokemba, a law student, welcomed the new members into the exclusive club and urged them to work harder to justify their inclusion.
Other administrators who graced the induction ceremony include Mrs. Faiszatu Abubakar, AVP, Human Resources; Mrs. Emillienne Akpan, Director, Writing Center; Mr. Yusuf Mohammed, Senior Director, Public Affairs and Community Relations; Mr. Benson Ali, University Librarian, and Professor Ahmad Maidamisa Aliyu of the Mathematics and Statistic Department, School of Arts and Sciences.
