AUN Hosts Northeast Basketball Championship

AUN Hosts Northeast Basketball Championship

For three days from October 17, 2019, AUN hosted the second edition of the North East Zone of the National Division II basketball championship.

Six teams from Nigeria’s Northeast clashed for top honors to feature in the country’s National team. In what considerably is the most coveted fixture in the zonal tournament.

AUN’s  Stallions were privileged to host the Taraba Ahmentor, Adamawa Lions, Adamawa State Polytechnic and the Maiduguri team.

The pristine indoor basketball arena was the venue for the competition.

This is only the second installment of the games organized by the Nigeria Basketball Federation. Jalingo, Taraba State capital, hosted the premiere edition last year.

Head Coach of the Basketball team, Emmanuel Adidi, believes that the AUN team’s feature in the tournament will help prepare it for the upcoming Nigeria Private University Games that will be held in Achievers University, Ogun State.

Zonal Coordinator for the North East, Yakubu Usman, praised the facilities he saw in the Commencement Hall which doubles as an indoor sports hall. He said, among the many universities he has visited AUN’s facilities stand out.

AUN’s hosting of the division II tournament is momentous not only because of her strong commitment to sports development but it also underscores AUN’s long standing mantra as Africa’s premier development university dedicated to all round development.
