On October 25, 2019, Women's Leadership Council (WLC), AUN chapter, had a walk and bake sales campaign for breast cancer awareness.
The campaign aims at raising funds to support breast cancer patients in Yola.
An encouraging number of students attended. The awareness campaign kicked off at the Cafeteria and covered every part of the university community ending with bake sales at the start point.
President of WLC, Sotonye Jennifer Wariso, a fourth-year Management & Entrepreneurship major, clarified that the program is segmented into four, namely awareness, bake sales which involve selling of cupcakes and soft drinks to raise more funds, breast cancer screening, and visitation to Federal Medical Center to pay for cancer patients' treatment.
"We want people out there to know that breast cancer is not something to hide or be ashamed of, it can be cured if necessary medical attention is given."
Ms. Wariso appreciated all the participants for their support because without them it would not have been lively and successful.
WLC AUN chapter’s great passion is to assist women. Over the years, the council has organized commemorative programs advocating women empowerment and support.
