On Thursday 6th of May 2021, the Security & Safety Department of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), hosted a security training for Faculty, staff, and students.
Mandated by the AUN Board and Governing Council the training was in response to prevailing security conditions across Nigeria. Participants were taught effective strategies and drills to anticipate and counter dangerous situations. They were also taught self-defense skills and psychological tools to take on antagonists.
Assistant Vice President for Safety & Security Ops, Dr. Lionel Von Rawlins led the session. Dr. Rawlins is a US Army Veteran who served in Afghanistan.
This training was just one of many proactive steps taken to secure the AUN community. Specialized K-9 units, drone squads, aerial and CCTV surveillance, armed bush security officers, armed patrol officers, mounted troops and other collaborative efforts with military and paramilitary forces have been deployed to keep the campus community safe.
