The American University of Nigeria (AUN) Male Football Team, the Stallions, have inflicted a second defeat on their counterparts from the neighboring Yola Campus of the Nigerian Law School.
The Stallions won 3-1 in a friendly match played on the AUN main campus on September 15, 2023. What was supposed to be a game of revenge turned into a drubbing for the visitors. In the spring semester, the Stallions defeated the Law School team 2-1, and they requested a rematch to avenge their loss.
But football is not legal studies, and the Stallions, who take no prisoners, registered the first goal in the 31st minute through Sufiyyan Mohammed Aji, when he converted a through pass to shoot past the opponents' hapless goalkeeper.
The visiting Law School Team scored an equalizer in the 42nd minute to quell the home team's enthusiasm, but Kalifa Abubakar scored a second goal for the Stallions in the final minute of the first half to regain the lead.
Both teams increased their intensity upon the resumption of play following the halftime break, but the Stallions ultimately assumed effective control, much to the delight of the spectators. The Stallions were finally rewarded for their dominant play when substitute striker Innocent J. Innocent, also known as Holland, scored the game-winning third goal.
Mr. Yahaya Sadiq, the coach of the Stallions, was pleased with the level of play and how his players executed their pre-match strategy.
