All is set for AUN to begin offering courses in Monitoring and Evaluation.
Come March 15, 2020, in partnership with the Monitoring & Evaluation Institute, AUN will be one of the first universities in Nigeria to fly courses in this lucrative field that is gaining a lot of prominence in developing countries like Nigeria.
As a world-class institution, AUN has the capacity to run full-fledged degree and graduate programs in Monitoring & Evaluation as reviewed by NUC representatives.
During preliminary meetings that held between representatives of the University and the M&E Institute, involving VP Abba Tahir, SBE Dean Attahiru Yusuf, and the Founder of the M& Institute, Aliyu Aminu Ahmed, an understanding was reached for a collaboration that would further the development and deepening of the discipline of Monitoring and Evaluation and its practice in Nigeria, beginning with AUN floating a certificate course in the field, this Fall.
The ultimate objective, from the MoU signed by both parties, is the development of a Bachelor's degree program in Monitoring & Evaluation to be submitted to the National Universities Commission for approval.
Many international organizations such as the United Nations, USAID, The World Bank Group and many others have been utilizing the M&E process for many years. The process is also growing in popularity in developing countries where governments have created their own national M&E systems to assess development projects, resource management, as well as government activities and administration.
M&E is also gaining prominence for so many other reasons. Apart from donors seeing that their money is creating value, a country like Nigeria cannot attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) without the M&E input which is a result-based management tool that measures goals and results.
There is so much happening in different sectors of the Nigerian economy, with a lot of demand for M&E but almost zero capacity. Since the early 1990s, the UN has urged organizations to go for result-based management systems, hence the high demand for M&E.
