AUN Women celebrate 2024 International Women’s Day in Style

The Women of Security and Safety Department of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) led other women in the school community to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024, by reaching out to patients in different wards of the Yola Specialist Hospital with gift packs.

As a precursor to the day, the women, together with President Dewayne Frazier, performed community service on the AUN campus, picking littered dirt, the president praised the initiative and expressed solidarity.  He appreciated the role women play all over the world, stating that the world needs to recognize women’s abilities and utilize it to better the society and world at large, considering the significant roles and impact women are making in different spheres of life, despite their underrepresentation.

Vice-President of the Security and Safety Department, Dr. Lionel von-Fredrick Rawlins, who was at the grand finale’s venue, where the women treated themselves to a banquet, said women deserve to be celebrated every day, not just a day reserved to recognize and acknowledge their efforts, plight, and strive. He however, stated that it’s great to have a day set aside to at least recognize the importance and contributions of women to the world.

“It is a great day and a wonderful day for women. The world is now recognizing the importance and contribution of women to the fabric of society and the world at large,” he noted.

The event’s coordinator and security supervisor, Ginsami Dauda, urged everyone, especially men, to appreciate women a little more, considering the vital roles they play in making society a better place for all.
