AUN Career Service Office hosts human resource workshop for final-year students

The Career Service Office of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) has organized a Human Resource Insight workshop for final-year students on March 1st, 2024, at the Security Training Hall. The purpose of the workshop was to provide students with insights on Recruitment, Talent Acquisition, Personal Development Strategies, Performance Management, Diversity, and Inclusion. The workshop aimed to help students align their strategies and performance toward success.

During the event, Mrs. Grace Nwokoma, the head of Career Service Office, spoke about evaluating and implementing career plans that lead to employment and personal development. She discussed ten easy resume writing tips and also shared ten interview steps that will prevent a negative first impression to a potential future boss.

Mr. Audu Liman, Director of the Atiku Institute for Development, spoke on the importance of investing and receiving training to develop professional skills for organizational needs. He encouraged final-year students to explore various career options that align with their goals and aspirations, either by volunteering or serving as an intern. He emphasized that in today's competitive job market, AUN students should take advantage of the opportunity given to them by the University to build strong professionalism through community service and other clubs to stand out to potential employers.

Fatima Bashir, the Office Manager of Atiku Institute for Development, who is also an AUN alumna, shared how AUN equipped her to make a difference in her world today. She stated how being exposed to a few development work opportunities while she was a student is now an added advantage for her. She encouraged students to keep in touch with alumni and to include them in their strategic plans, as they are the biggest ingredient for success.

In his words, a final year Software Engineering major, Mr. Chinedu Kalu, said the workshop was informative and beneficial. He thanked the Career Office for equipping them with the knowledge they need to confidently pursue their career goals.
