The American University of Nigeria - Atiku Institute for Development (AUN-AID) received a donation of $6,000 from the Friends of Nigeria (FON), an association of retired American Peace Corps volunteers in the United States. Dr. DeWayne Frazier, the President of AUN, who accepted the donation on behalf of the AUN-AID during the summer of 2024, handed over the cheque to the institute in a brief ceremony on September 13, 2024.
President Frazier, in a heartfelt gesture, expressed his deep gratitude for the continued support of FON. He also highlighted the strong bond between the members of Friends of Nigeria and AUN's founder, noting that some of them had the privilege of teaching the founder during their time as Peace Corps volunteers in Nigeria and their invaluable assistance in running the Feed, among others.
Receiving the donation, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Husaini, the Deputy Chief of Party/Administrator of grants and contracts AUN-AID, appreciated the FON for their constant generosity and revealed that the donation would be used to support AUN's mission to promote Community Development in Nigeria and also facilitate the Feed and Read program where vulnerable out-of-school children are provided with basic literacy and numeracy education and a hot meal every weekday.
FON's support for AUN has been steadfast and enduring, with the sponsoring of many projects over the years. This long-standing partnership has significantly contributed to AUN's efforts in Community Development and education.
