New Rwandan Student Djibiril Mashariki: I Intend to be Relevant Here at AUN

Computer Science Major Djibiril Mashariki just arrived as a Spring 2022 semester student, but there are indications we will be hearing more about this fresh-faced and poised young man from Rwanda.

Djibiril will be joining a distinguished cohort of other scholars from the East African country whose educational and life-changing journey began here at the American University of Nigeria.

Djibiril shared with us his early encounters in Nigeria, Yola, and AUN--his first impressions.

"Nigeria is a hospitable country, quite contrary to what the rest of the world might be thinking right now. I have been well received and treated very well. I am delighted to be here. Yola is fascinating as well. I have seen things for myself, and I love the Yola community. AUN has been wonderful to me. I love this community, and I love the welcoming presence of the event organizers - volunteers, staff and faculty.

"But mostly, the President (Dr. Margee Ensign) has been extraordinarily wonderful. I have been deeply touched by everything she and her office staff have done to receive me and make me feel welcome here on campus".

On his expectations as he begins his academic journey at AUN, Djibiril said he would be guided by the University's motto: Excellence, Integrity, and Service in modeling his values, studying for his grades, and giving back to the community.

"I intend to be relevant by first of all focusing on what I am good at, what I can do best, and being able to bring that as an addition into the community in whatever capacity that I may have. But I would love to volunteer at some point and play an active role in activities in the community and on campus".
