The Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Professor Attahir Yusuf, has identified entrepreneurship, innovation, and excellence in character and learning as distinguishing AUN education from others.
Professor Yusuf addressed new students and their parents during the Spring 2022 Convocation and Pledge ceremony. The Professor of Entrepreneurship welcomed the new intakes into the academic community and reassured them of the quality and readiness of faculty to help them achieve their academic dreams.
"The emphasis on entrepreneurship, innovation and excellence gives our students an all-round intellectual experience that sets them apart. Here at AUN, we do not just talk about entrepreneurship or business, it is our way of life. Entrepreneurship is the foundation of our education".
He said that by the time they were ready to graduate, many would be fully ready to own and manage businesses by themselves.
Professor Attahir advised the new students to enjoy their newfound freedom on the AUN campus responsibly, and always to remember that their core mission here is to succeed, to justify their parents' trust. He cautioned them to make integrity their watchword and to seek help where they are confused.
He also advised them to take advantage of the support facilities and friendly faculty who can mentor them and help them navigate their academic sojourn.
"Here at AUN you are expected to analyze, to ask questions. You are supposed to do everything necessary to add to your knowledge. The American University of Nigeria is not where you come to memorize; this a place where you will have to understand what you doing."
Professor Attahir advised the students to take their studies very seriously and quickly appreciate the advantage of group discussions.
