Shokugeki: Food Wars

Shokugeki: Food Wars

Friday, February 21, 2020, saw the introduction of a different kind of contest, and no, it was not a dancing contest. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) surprised the AUN community with a cooking competition. They called it Shokugeki after the Japanese shōnen manga series written by Yūto Tsukuda.

The battle had different segments: the burger eating contest for which third-year Petroleum Chemistry major, Zamena Onyeke, emerged winner, and the food wars proper which entailed two groups in pairs. Each group was given limited time and challenged to make a dish out of a blend of ingredients.

The winner of the two groups whose members are third-year NES major, Christiana Afeni, and final-year Economics major, Kelechi Ahanwa, prepared rice with peas and bell pepper sauce with fried fish. They were ecstatic to have won the contest and longed to have another such competition on campus again.

CAB received high fives from commenters: "The event is different from what we're used to," noted final-year Politics & International Studies major, Doofan Tar-aliegba. She wasn't the only one who thinks so; the judges also gave the event a thumbs-up as they savored the sumptuous dished.
