On November 8, 2019, Dean Muhammad Lawal Ahmadu of the School of Law received the Grand Commander of Northern Students (GCNS), a platinum leadership award of the National Association of Northern Students (NANS).
Comrade Usman Umar-Tuga, the NANS President who presented the award at the Moot Court in the School of Law building, described the recipient as a distinguished professor. Saying he has proved himself worthy of emulation because of his numerous contributions to educational development in Nigeria, across Africa and beyond.
The student leader also remarked that Prof. Ahmadu's 'long-standing philanthropy' has improved the lives of many and he kept it anonymous for long.
"These numerous contributions to humanity should not be allowed to go unnoticed, which is why we have come to Yola to present this platinum leadership award." He led a delegation of officials to AUN.
The Association said it had done extensive research on Prof. Ahmadu and found out about his passion for the good of society, and likened him to the late premier of Northern region, Sir Ahmadu Bello. The president also confessed his admiration for the academic having delved deep into his numerous achievements in teaching and research.
Prof. Ahmadu thanked the association and commended its efforts toward building peace and unity and acknowledging the need for educational development, not only in the North but in the entire country. The Dean also pledged his support for the Association as its objectives and goals--peace, unity, and development--are good. He observed that peace is the foundation for every development and development cannot happen without the youth being responsible and taking responsibility to better the world.
"There is more to do, and there is enough time to do it."
