AUN Alum Halima Mohammed Gets into Top Legislative Mentorship Program

Former SGA President and Politics & International Studies major from the class of 2023, Halima Mohammed has been selected as one of 45 successful candidates for the Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI), a youth leadership development program designed to equip and empower dynamic young leaders interested in public sector leadership especially in legislation.

Ms. Halima shared the good news of this milestone achievement through an email to the Marketing and Communications Office, where she revealed that she was picked as one of 45 successful candidates from a pool of 5000 applicants.

Looking back on her time as the leader here at AUN, it is no surprise that Halima will successfully qualify and get into such a highly competitive program and excel too.

The Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI) is a special program founded by Former Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to empower and prepare young leaders who are passionate about public service by giving them the practical experience they need to participate in governance, politics, and decision-making processes.

Ms. Mohammed served as the President of the AUN Student Government Association (SGA). While at AUN, Halima participated in several national and international programs, including the ECOWAS Gender Transformative Human Capital Development Conference in Freetown, Sierra Leone (2022); The Public Policy Forum “Making University Communities Safer: Role of Students” (2022); and Project Kick-Off Meeting, Promoting Effective Participation of Women in Governance & Combating Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria (2023) at the Yar’adua Center, Abuja. She was also a member of the AUN Honor Society (AUNHS) where she was involved in high-impact community-driven projects.
