The American University of Nigeria (AUN), for over 12 years, has been fostering international dialogue and cultural exchange through its partnership with the American University of Cyprus (AUCY). The 2024 fall semester's South-South Dialogue took place on October 28.
The South-South Dialogue, held twice each semester, not only provides AUN students with invaluable opportunities to engage with peers from other universities around the globe but also contributes to a global community. The initiative aims to enrich students' academic experiences while broadening their global perspectives.
This semester, participants explored the cultural norms and social structures that influence women's rights. One of the participants, an AUN student, Muhammad Bashir, an Information Systems Major, expressed his enthusiasm, "AUN giving us this opportunity is awesome, and I want them to continue. It is an amazing window that connects us with students globally."
Dr. Agatha Ada Ukata, the instructor in charge, emphasized that these dialogues are part of AUN's commitment to extending education beyond classroom borders. "AUN not only encourages students to develop their academic skills but also enables them to interact with diverse cultures and ideas worldwide”, according to the professor of English literature and associate dean of SAS.
This interaction with international peers enhances their understanding of global perspectives from the very beginning of their academic journey, making them more enlightened and culturally aware. The South-South Dialogue serves as an alternative to conventional study-abroad programs, offering students a platform to connect with international peers without the financial and logistical barriers typically associated with international travel.
