Welcoming the Spring 2024 newly admitted students and their parents to the AUN beautiful campus on January 25, 2024, at the e-Library auditorium, the President of the University, Prof. DeWayne Frazier, walked the new students through what makes AUN special and urged them to be part of the story as AUN is involved in many development projects.
The President narrates how the AUN founder's encounter with the US Peace Corps changed his perspective on education, leading to the AUN experiment; A model of education based on liberal arts, critical thinking, and selfless community service that inspires people to dream big and urged the students to take advantage of the AUN liberal Arts Education and also the footsteps of the founder by dreaming big.
President DeWayne further explained that there are boundless opportunities here at AUN that will enhance students' experience. “We are preparing you for the types of jobs that don’t exist today, and that’s what makes AUN unique because graduates of AUN are job creators as opposed to job seekers,” he stated.
Welcoming the freshmen, the Student Government Association’s President, Talford Ongolo, described AUN as a beacon for the whole of Africa. He assured the new students that “here you will find an environment where teachers and professors prioritize personal growth, nurturing the strengths and weaknesses of each student. The journey you are about to embark on today will test your mettle; it will throw challenges your way mentally, physically, and emotionally; however, in overcoming these challenges, you will be reborn as a greater person, finding your place amongst the great in society.” He added.
Vice-President Campus Life and Dean of Students Affairs, Byron Bullock dropped words of advice to the new students: “Share with your parents your successes and your failures; this is a partnership, and they have the right to know what is happening with you academically and otherwise while you are here,” he said.
First-year students at AUN, as a tradition spent their first few days on campus, getting to know one another, discovering a plethora of opportunities, and enjoying social events. They also learn how to get the support they require as they begin their lives at AUN.
