On Friday, January 14, 2024, the American University of Nigeria (AUN) welcomed a team from the Sarauniyyah Aid Foundation during a courtesy visit aimed at enhancing community engagement and fostering partnerships between the two organizations. This visit provided an opportunity for AUN students, faculty members, and representatives from the foundation to discuss potential areas for collaboration.
Sarauniyyah Aid Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable populations in Adamawa State. Mohammed Chubado Ahmed, the project's coordinator, and AUN alumnus, spoke about the foundation's significant achievements to date.
"We engage in various activities within the health and education sectors. In health, we raise awareness about cancer and other tropical diseases, organize health fairs for malaria and typhoid screenings, and in education, we sponsor Almajiri children to attend school, providing them with essential educational materials. Additionally, we focus on environmental issues by planting trees and promoting climate change awareness," Ahmed stated.
He also announced an upcoming event, a cancer awareness walk aimed at highlighting breast cancer. Ahmed encouraged AUN to collaborate with the foundation to enhance the event's impact.
Mrs. Jane Amos, AUN's Commercial Operations Manager, expressed the institution's commitment to partnership in the aforementioned areas. She highlighted the numerous projects undertaken by the AUN-Atiku Institute for Development, emphasizing AUN's dedication to community collaboration.
The visit concluded with the presentation of personalized gifts, each branded with the name of the AUN President, which was accepted on his behalf by Dr. Adewale James, Interim Provost and AVP of Academic Affairs. This gesture symbolized the strengthening of ties and mutual commitment between AUN and the Sarauniyyah Aid Foundation.
