The American University of Nigeria welcomed the newest members of the AUN Community at a highly colorful Fall 2024 Convocation and Pledge ceremony held inside the Commencement Hall on Monday, September 2, 2024.
The matriculating class was the largest AUN intake in recent times and included international students, students transferring from foreign universities and other Nigerian universities.
Addressing the Classes of 2028 and 2029, President DeWayne Frazier reiterated his unwavering confidence in the crucial role AUN has been playing in shaping the future of Nigeria and the African continent. Dr. Frazier expressed confidence in AUN's mission to produce a new generation of ethically-minded leaders who will not only address but also significantly reduce Nigeria's challenges.
"Our students' education is not just for themselves. They are problem solvers, community activists, and some are even pioneers in global arenas", the President stated.
The President's speech also reiterated the university's goal of educating graduates who are not only academically strong but also socially responsible and capable of creating positive change in Nigeria and beyond. He encouraged the entire AUN community to come together in our mission to promote creativity and critical thinking among students.
The President also praised the dedication and passion of AUN faculty and staff, which he believes are the driving forces behind the university's success.
"Your commitment to our students shows passion. It is not about personal gain or money, but about empowering the next generation of leaders", the President added. He encouraged members of AUN faculty and staff to continue inspiring students in creativity and critical thinking, which are essential skills in today's world.
Among the large audience were parents, AUN alums, guests, faculty, staff and volunteering students whose commitment in welcoming and making the freshmen feel at home in the beautiful AUN campus has become a recurring feature of the orientation activities.
